Indie vs Mainstream films

The Comparison of an Indie and Mainstream film poster

The title 'Tangerine' links to the colour of the sunset in the background, and also the extravagant font gives the poster a more wondering feel. The fact that there are quotes reviewing the film that are positive encourages the audience to watch this film as it is reviewed well. There is a reference to 'Sundance' which further dhows the audience what a good film this is as it is being shown at a highly acclaimed film festival. Furthermore, the background of a sunset with silhouettes of (presumably) two girls in a city creates a sense of mystery as their identity has not been revealed. The film does not star any well known actors, as their names have not been included on the poster, which shows that the film is meant to be relatable to the audience.

The obvious aspect that this is a mainstream film is the list of stars written at the top of the poster, showing the audience that this will be a good film as these particular actors are known for being involved in musicals that are fun and family friendly. The title is written in a glamorous font to emphasise how wonderful the film is. Furthermore, the audience can also tell that this is a mainstream film as the background is made up of intricate graphics with big images of the stars, consequently getting the audiences attention.  There is also some silhouettes of audience members cheering on the performers, promising enjoyment, which therefore adds to the happy, family friendly theme of the film. There is no reviews featured on the poster, simply because with the stars included, the film doesn't need to be promoted and advertised as much as an indie film does.
