The main headline features a serious issue about the treatment of a disease so uses formal language. 
It has included these articles to appeal to the target audience of people of the upper class.

Applying the theories/connotations/denotations The woman featured is presented to be a shy person, which is portrayed through how she is posing with her hand across her face, smiling at the camera. She is fully covered in clothing, and we can only see the top half of her body, which keeps in with the ideology that a woman in the sixties needs to be pure, not provocative. This magazine was produced at a time of a patriarchal society, so produces an ideology where women were expected to be nothing more than housewives, from the perspective of a man.
