Analysing the mirror

On the front cover, the reader is instantly attracted to this article about the oscars, as it is featured at the top of the page, and viewers tend to read in the 'z' order. It is a soft news story, and is more likely to appeal to a female audience or younger audiences who are socially aware of mainstream events and enjoy the glitz and glamour of it. The glamour of this event can be a form of escapes  for struggler audiences.
There is a small article reporting about the weather, but they have included a picture of a woman in a bikini, to appeal to the male gaze. This is because this newspaper can attract males, usually 25+, so this article would encourage them to pick it up.

This newspaper is left wing, so supports Corbyn and the labour party. This means they present Corbyn in a positive way, and May in a negative light (this can be seen when her brexit plan is referred to as 'botched'). This means the newspaper would appeal to younger, working class audiences as this is who labour's campaign is aimed at.

This article is about reality tv star Katie Price who was charged with drink driving. This gossip type of news is mostly aimed at younger, working class audiences who lack intelligence. This article takes up the majority of the page, in contrast to the small political articles featuring football altercations and syrian refugees, which has been done to appeal to the papers target audience. The newspaper is also informative as it includes a weather report.

The featured article is about the rising risk of type 2 diabetes in middle aged people, which has been included to appeal to readers of that age, attracting their attention. It also includes a crossword which is more likely to target middle aged audiences. There is an appeal for readers to send in a story at the bottom of the page, which shows that this newspaper are struggling for readers in the decline of the newspaper industry.

This features unflattering photos of meghan markle, which implies that this newspaper has a negative view of her. Instead of using unflattering photos that portray her in a negative light, the mirror could have used pictures of the charity work and events she has attended and supported. The fact that the royal family is included shows that the newspaper keeps up to date with politics and current affairs.
