Director: This film was released in 2015 and was directed by F. Gary Grey, a director from LA.
Production Company: It was produced by Ice Cube, Dr Dre, F. Gary Grey, Eazy's widow Tomica Woods-Wright, Matt Alvarez and Scott Bernstein, developed at New Line Cinema. The production company was Legendary Productions, which is part of Universal Production company.
Social/Cultural/Political Context: The plot was based on the history of a group called N.W.A who were trying to end police brutality in LA during the 1980/90's. This was a result of Rodney King being beaten by several white police officers, which caused outrage with ethnic minorities in LA. Consequently, the 1992 LA riots happened.
Production Context: The production and casting faced controversies such as associating poor women with African American women, which faced backlash, and there was also a drive by shooting that took place near the set, which resulted in one filmmaker suffering head injuries. Overall, around $50million was spent on production.
Stars: The film starred Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson Jr as O'Shea 'Ice Cube' Jackson, Corey Hawkins as Andre 'Dr Dre' Young, and Jason Mitchell as Eric 'Eazy-E' Wright, who all made up the gangster rap trio 'N.W.A'. Paul Giamatti starred as the groups manager Jerry.
Genre: Straight Outta Compton is an american biographical drama film made in  2015.
BBFC rating/global regulation: It was rated a 15 as it included references to violence, sex, drug use and strong language.
Target Audience: The target audience of this film was fans of N.W.A, fans of gangster rap, fans of biopic films and fans of the film studios/produced.
Conventions of a film trailer: This trailer includes non diegetic sound, for example music that is fast paced to represent he drama of the film. We see a negative portrayal of the police in the trailer, so ultimately we are shown the point of view of the N.W.A. The last thing we see is the title of the film, which is done so it is the last thing the audience has in their heads. We also get an insight to the characters when their names and clips of them on their own are shown on the screen.
